Healing With Derma Shield (Second Skin Bandage)

For most tattoos, I use Derma Shield to protect the tattoo during the first stage of healing.

Derma Shield is a breathable, waterproof bandage that helps:

  • Protect the tattoo from bacteria

  • Reduce scabbing

  • Keep the tattoo clean and sealed

  • Support smoother healing

How Long Should You Keep Derma Shield On?

Most clients wear Derma Shield for 4-5 days, depending on the tattoo and placement.

If the bandage stays sealed and comfortable, leave it on for the full recommended time.

Removing Derma Shield Safely

When it’s time to remove it:

  1. Wash your hands first

  2. Peel slowly under warm running water

  3. Remove gently with soap — do not rip it off dry

  4. Wash the tattoo with mild, fragrance-free soap

  5. Pat dry with a clean paper towel

After Derma Shield Comes Off

Once removed:

  • Wash the tattoo 1–2 times per day

  • Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free moisturizer

  • Avoid soaking, sun exposure, and scratching during healing

Peeling and light itching are normal as the tattoo heals.

Every tattoo heals differently. If you ever have questions during healing, feel free to reach out — I’m always happy to help ensure your tattoo heals perfectly.
